Elmbridge Xcel development FAQs

We are incredibly pleased to announce our continued management of the Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex, Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub, and The Hurst Pool in partnership with Elmbridge Borough Council for the next 10 years.

In light of this news, we are excited to announce that Places Leisure will be investing 6 million pounds into a complete refurbishment and restructure at Elmbridge Xcel Leisure Complex taking place over the next 2 years.

General FAQs

Can I freeze my membership?​

Yes, our members are able to freeze their membership for a maximum of 3 months at one time. Members must give 15 days’ notice prior to their next direct debit. For further information, please speak to a member of the team or refer to our T&Cs.

How can I keep up to date with further communications? 

We are really looking forward to sharing more exciting updates with you! Regular emails will be sent out regarding upcoming developments. To ensure you receive these communications, please update your marketing preferences and opt-in to communications. Our social media will also be updated with any exciting updates.

How long will the developments take? 

The refurbishments will commence later this year with the aim to reach completion in 2024.

Will the centre remain open throughout the developments? 

Yes, the centre will remain open throughout the developments. The work will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption. We will communicate with our customers at each phase to provide specific information on timelines and the impact the developments will have on accessing facilities.

Studio development FAQs

How will the developments effect classes?

Classes will continue to run in Studios 1 and 2, until the new studios are completed; they will then transfer to the new studios.

Will the studio development impact on the current indoor cycling studio?

Due to the location of the development works, there will be a period of time where the cycling studio will be closed. However, we aim to run a reduced Group Cycling timetable using other locations within Xcel to cater to our avid cyclists!

Will the class timetable change?

Changes to the group exercise timetable will be communicated in due course. In advance of opening the new studios, we will seek feedback from customers and colleagues to help shape the post-development programme.

Will the Gymnastics Programme be impacted by the development works?


Once the programme of works commences gymnastics classes will be transitioning into the sports hall. We will be in touch with our gymnastics participants nearer the time with additional information. From that point onwards, gymnastics will have use of the hall at all times.

All existing participants have been sent a development newsletter informing them of the upcoming changes.

How will I be notified of the studio reopening?

We will communicate with our customers via email when our studios are due to be reopened.

What will the new developments include?

We are turning our current gymnastics hall into four new studios. This will include an immersive cycling studio and three group exercise studios – with dedicated space for holistic classes such as our much-loved Yoga and Pilates sessions.
