Congratulations Orla!

Swimmer of the year 2022

After a challenging 2022 we wanted to round the year off with some good news stories. We asked all of our Swimming Teachers to nominate those distinctive, very special swimmers who deserved a bit of recognition.

They were asked to identify swimmers on our lesson programmes (children and adults) who have displayed positive attitudes, unyielding determination or, have put in efforts over and above their peers.  They may have overcome personal adversity or achieved something unexpected or challenging.

Orla Campbell - Kings Centre's swimmer of the year 2022!
I have taught Orla for a good couple of years, has always been very quite and un-assuming. Orla tries so hard at all the tasks, she hasn’t always found it easy but keeps trying until she achieves her best.
Orla has been in stage 5 for a while and the last thing was her breaststroke which she struggled with. Orla got cross with herself and frustrated.
About 5 weeks ago, I encouraged her to watch a breaststroke YouTube video, and asked her to practice at home which her mum helped her to do during the week in their front room on the sofa. Each week she came back to the lesson on Saturday, understanding the stroke a little more. With lots of praise and great determination, she has mastered breaststroke.
I have now moved her to stage 6 she was so proud!
