Places Gym supports BBC Children in Need 2019

Places Gym is getting behind this years BBC Children in Need 2019 appeal, by hosting a series of events across sites. Are you ready to join in?

What's happening in Preston?

Hosting a Spin-a-thon on Friday 15 November, at Places Gym Preston, the team are 'riding' the 221 miles from the Preston site to the BBC Television Centre in London. Members, staff and even colleagues at the Places for People Group Head Office will be getting involved. Taking turns to ride and clock up the mileage, everyone getting involved will donate towards the great cause.

“We’re all looking forward to raising money for Children in Need – 221 miles is a long ride, but with many different people taking it in turns to add to our miles cycled, we’ll reach the target in no time,” says General Manager of Places Gym Preston, Liam Canavan.

“Having participation from our parent company is also exciting – they were so enthusiastic about getting involved, we’ve decided to take a spin bike over to the offices for the day so they can take it in turns to do a spinning shift.”

Over to Chesterfield

Hosting an Urban-Triathlon on Saturday 16 November, Places Gym Chesterfield are really putting those involved through their paces.

Headed up by Personal Trainer and Assistant General Manager, Gavin Holmes, the Urban-Triathlon consists of a 45-minute spin class, 45-minute run – either outdoors or on the treadmill – and a 45-minute rowing session.

“Urban-Triathlons are becoming a big deal in main cities such as London and Manchester – so we thought we’d bring a bit of that to Chesterfield. It’s a great way to get members, the public and staff involved to raise money for such a great cause,” said Gav.

“We hope to get as many people involved throughout the week – we’ll begin fundraising from Monday 11th November and hold a bake sale on Friday 15th, in our café area just to do a bit more.”

What about the others?

Down in Telford, the Places Gym team are hosting a series of fitness classes on Friday 15th, tailor made to have fun, get everyone involved and to encourage fundraising. A copy of the timetable can be found here.

Around our other sites - Edinburgh, Hinckley and Sheffield - the teams will be carrying out fun gym challenges, perhaps dressing up and of course, ramping up the volume in fitness classes.

“Everyone is welcome at Places Gym, member or not and we’d like to thank everyone in advance for their support," finished Liam.

Non-members can get involved by registering for a free pass at your local Places Gym or joining in as a member.
