Member success at Telford!

Whilst on holiday in October I entered the Places Gym Telford competition to win 6 weeks membership and Personal Training.
At 30 I was feeling fat & frumpy when I found out I was pregnant. At 40 I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid. Now I’m fast approaching 52 (on 31st December) with 2 small grandchildren under the age of 3 and was struggling to run around after them. I also recently found out following a series of blood tests that I was borderline diabetic.

My doctor gave me 3 months to sort it out, so on the very same day my doctor told me that, I got the call from Natalie (Assistant Manager) to tell me I had won the competition! I asked to work with Karen as I had heard amazing things about her already, and so it began!

I was weighed and measured before starting my PT sessions. Karen was amazing. She talked me through my diet and what I should and shouldn’t be eating along with times to eat too! Who knew I wasn’t eating enough!!! Plenty of water and loads of encouragement from everyone at Places!

My PT sessions were hard as there was no hiding at the back of a class. Kaz pushed me but with loads of encouragement to keep going. My body had worked harder than I had ever worked it before!

I gradually started to notice that my body shape was changing, and clothes were a little loose. I wore tight trousers for the first time in about 30 years and got so many compliments. I also have a medical condition that came about after my gall bladder had to be removed where I had to take daily medication but have now found I now don’t need it!

My whole way of thinking about food has changed! My work colleagues saved me some chocolate as a treat once I had my final weigh in but I’ve found I didn’t want them - no more will I dive into a chocolate box if I am bored! Nuts and mango all the way for me now!
At my final weigh in I had lost a total of 14.3lbs lost and 5% body fat along with quite a few inches too! But more importantly, I feel confident about my shape and happy in my body for the first time in ages. Hopefully I’m turning my diabetic issue around too. It’s been hard, I won’t lie but it was worth it and it’s all thanks to entering that competition a few months ago when I was feeling so low.

Thank you to everyone involved in the making of the new me! Kaz... it’s been a blast! And in the words of Arnie.... “I’ll be back”! Xxxx
